In order to help get you ready for our annual Scrapbook Garage Sale, I'm going to share something that I recently learned while purging my own scrap supplies.

This is a simple concept yet I finally realized what my main problem was when it came to keeping my scrap stuff organized.

Your supplies need to fit into your defined space.

This was a major issue for me and probably also for many of you. Since I work at a scrapbook store, I have constant contact with all things scrapbooking which means I buy stuff regularly. I have a hall closet that I converted to my craft space. The doors have been removed and cabinets and a counter top have been installed. Since I don't have a scrapbook room and my closet space is pretty limited, I stored stuff where ever I could. I didn't realize how bad it actually was until I gathered everything I had so I could see it all together. I had my albums in my bedroom closet on a shelf that were impossible to get to, paper stored in vertical paper holders in my tv armourer, kits and "in progress" projects stored in a wire rack system in our playroom along with an open cabinet full of embellishments, stickers and mini books. A couple weeks ago I discovered that I had a tub of chipboard books under my bed in a storage container that I completely forgot existed for at least 1 1/2 years. I store very few items under my bed so the fact that this was under there and I forgot about it made me finally realize my stash had really over grown it's invisible boundaries. Admittedly I was embarrassed by the shear volume of it all and I realized it was time to get serious and let a good amount of it go.

After piling everything together on the playroom floor, I sorted through every item. Realistically, this takes time. I sorted everything in "shifts" because I knew it wasn't something I could get done in one night. Here's how I decided what to keep and what to let go of. I asked myself the following questions:

1. Do I still like it?
This is an easy one. If no, it went to the garage sale pile. If yes, next question.

2. Do I have an idea for it?
Do I realistically see myself using it within the next 6 months?
This is when honesty comes in to play. I also think putting a time frame on when it's going to be used helps. I especially used the time limit when it was an item that I had been holding on to for sometime.

3. Do I have the space for it?
If the item made it to this point (especially bigger, space consuming things such as kits), I had to survey how much room I had, then decide which item was the most important to keep.

4. Does this item fit into the vision for my space?
This last point I stole from professional organizer Peter Walsh. He has a great new show on Oprah's network that I adore.)

I know this sounds silly when we are talking about scrapbook supplies but this does apply to my situation. My craft closet is located in my living room and it's one of the first things anyone sees when walking in my home. Usually, the counter top in my space is not only completely covered, but it is also piled up. When it gets to this state, then I usually have to start putting stuff on the floor. For me, once items hit the floor, they stay there for awhile. This is all not a very welcoming site to see upon walking into my front door! So it really made me focus on keeping what would fit into my space. Plus I really wanted to get to the point where my stash was easily controllable so that it would stay organized. We all spend so much time organizing our supplies. Wouldn't it be great to use that time to scrap instead??? Of course!!!!

So once I finished the sort, this was my garage sale pile. It's probably the biggest amount of stuff that I've ever let go of.

I hope I have inspired you to sort your stash and be more organized. Because being more organized means more time scrapbooking! :)

Check back to read to read my next post in which I will discuss how I organized the supplies that I kept. I will be sharing more tips along with some great organizational products!

Good afternoon! Just wanted to share the good news that we have set a date for our annual Scrapbooking Garage Sale! Mark your calendars now!...

I heard alot of concern from the gals scrapbooking this weekend about frustrations with the Glue Glider Pro refills. They were having issues with the cartridge when they were getting close to the end of the roll, it appears to be jamming.
I just spoke with the folks at Glue Glider Pro, and they do not think they have a problem with the refills. They need to SEE the refills that are acting strange so they can indentify what the problem is.
If you have a refill that is too tight, and is hard to roll please call Glue Arts at 1-866-889-4583 and report what you have. They want to take care of the customers and have told me they will replace cartridges, if you have the original to send in, and if you identify yourself as buying from Creek Bank Creations,Inc.
It is always our goal to sell quality products that you can trust. If you have any other issues please let us know. We'll do our best to help resolve them.

Yesterday was going to be a day when I shared some exciting news about some fun new products I've been developing.

Unfortunately Yesterday was the day that my 19 year old nephew Mason Creek was killed in a car accident. This young man was a very big part of our family and was my son's best buddy for years. Many of you may remember chatting with him at shows.

Here he is at a show in Ohio...helping Aunt Julie (me) set display boards. He was quick whitted and would say the funniest things...things that were things he thought...and then spoke...like the time we were driving home from Arlington. Tom and I were arguing over something...don't remember what. Tom kept pushing..and said one final thing that pushed me over the edge...I started crying. Mason looked at Uncle Tom and said..."you were fine until that last comment..then you just pushed her over the edge". We all laughed until our sides split! The argument was over.

I will be busy all week helping with the family things and attending funeral services on Friday. Keely and Diann are holding down things at the shop, so operations should be normal. (those girls.... ROCK can I just say that?)

So today you'll be getting updated on some things I've been working on...and I'll tell you about our Tim Holtz/Ranger sale...but the detailed news of new products will have to wait for another day. I'm just out of time to pull together all the details I wanted to share with you.

I wanted to share with you my thoughts and recap about The 12 Tags of Christmas from Tim Holtz. We enjoy the tags because there is so much to learn from Tim Holtz. Each year I'm amazed that I've picked up new skill and ideas. The problem is...he does the tags at Christmas and we are all so dang busy. I wanted to recap with you about this and offer the 20% off sale NOW. Here's how it goes....try visiting Tim Holtz Blog and checking out the tags he made in December. Try picking up one new technique, or skill. Then check out our website where you'll find all the Tim Holtz/Ranger products are 20% off until next Tuesday. You must use coupon code ilovetim at checkout. Does not include Vagabond, new stickles colors, or wholesale orders.

You'll see Tim using lots of dies, embossing folders with his Vagabond Die Cut Machine. These are great tools, and they are all on the website. Please note that the manufacturing will NOT allow us to sell the machine lower than "mapping" pricing and so if you would like a Vagabond machine we can sell you one for $220.00. You will have to call us though, as we had to take the product off the site due to the mapping issue. (pricing)

If you want a more reasonably priced machine the Cuttlebug is a great option that will cut almost anything and we're offering it for $75.00 plus 20% off. That's a great deal..plus free freight on orders over $50.00

This layout shows a technique Tim Holtz loves to use. I embossed the white cardstock with Tim Holtz embossing folders, and then accented them using the ink blending tool and distress ink. You can see Tim Holtz do this on his blog. These are the kinds of things you can learn from Tim!

Here's a close up of the embossed snowflakes. I accented the snowflakes with I Rock Gems. The I Rock Tools is great for this kind of work...small details that add big PUNCH.
This photo shows my border. Handmade by ME using tulle and Tim Hotlz Tiny Attacher. I then accented the border with the I Rock Tool. Have I mentioned it's a great tool?

One of my favorite dies EVER...and it's by Tim Holtz...the Rosette Die. Accented here with blue ink and the ink blending tool, topped with punched snowflakes and the I Rock gem.

Remember all Tim Holtz and Ranger products on sale 30% off. (you must use coupon code ilovetim at checkout. Does not apply to Vagabond, New Stickles colors, or wholesale orders). Use the coupons Online and in the shop this weekend. (extended hours 9am-10pm Friday and Saturday)

We do have room for you at our Scrapbook U event this weekend. Please CALL the shop to sign up...217-548-2132. Please leave a message (name and phone number) if we don't answer the phone.

Keep Scrapbooking friends...it preserves memories you might find extra special someday!

I have a confession to make...card making has always baffled me. Where does one even start? A few months ago a light bulb clicked on with me. (I know I'm slow)
The pattern paper put out my many manufactures make great pieces with cards! It makes card crafting easy when you pick a few pieces of match paper, and create away! I wanted work play with the new Sew Easy Stitching tools on these cards too and I think the two together makes the cards look great!

I used the crazy love pattern paper, the fudge and flowers pattern paper, the pink pajama and java cardstock.

This card shows some simple stitching with the piercer tool from We R Memory Keepers and the pink floss. I distressed the edges of the edge with the paper distressor.

The Hersey's kiss and other accents on the cards are made with foil from my kitchen!

The chocolate bar on this card measures around 1.5" wide by 2.25" long. It's just a piece of cardstock I wrapped with foil, then wrapped with cardstock. Kinda an accident when a bunch of scraps were on the work table. :)

I free handed a heart and tore it out for another card I was working on, and then didn't like the results. As it was laying on my work surface I thought it would look good accented with foil. I just tore the foil slightly larger than the heart, and then wrapped it around the edges. The inside of this card reads...

I hope you enjoyed the cards. They will be on display at the shop along with several other projects I've put together that you'll be seeing on the blog in the next few weeks.

We are open today in Muncie, Illinois until 5pm and tomorrow from 10am-5pm as well.
